March 19, 2005

George, South Africa: A special African Children’s Choir made up of AIDS orphans from the Nkomazi region in the northern part of South Africa recently took part in Nelson Mandela’s 46664 AIDS Awareness Concert. This was held at the Fancourt Hotel and Country Club Estate in the city of George on March 19 2005. The Choir sang “We Are The Champions” alongside the British rock band “Queen”.

Later they sang “Because You Loved Me” for the ex–President and his wife.

Mandela’s 46664 campaign, initiated in 2003 and organized by the Nelson Mandela Foundation, was founded in the support brought to him by some of the world’s biggest music artists, initially Bono, Dave Stewart, Annie Lennox and Queen’s Brian May and Roger Taylor.

This Choir will be touring the UK, starting in May 2005, singing at locations across the Isles, including The Royal Albert Hall for the BBC Proms with Bobby McFerrin.
