Music For Life first started working in Rwanda as part of its relief efforts following the 1994 genocide. Initially concentrating on providing relief, Music For Life soon moved onto provide training in counseling skills to church and children’s workers to help equip them as they reached out to those suffering from post traumatic stress.
Music For Life partnered with two local children’s centres that were helping the countless orphaned and unaccompanied children. Gisimba Memorial Centre, which was run by Papa Damas in Kigali, the capital city and Kibilira Children’s Centre started by Pastor Leo in rural Rwanda. Through a variety of programs Music For Life was able to help these centres to provide not only for the basic physical needs of the children but also for their educational, spiritual and emotional needs too. Bringing hope and healing to a generation in crises.
Over time Music For Life selected children from these Centres to join the African Children’s Choir. These children through the loving Christian care and education that they received have now grown up into responsible citizens with a heart to serve others. During their college years many of them volunteered in Music For Life’s Outreaches in some of the impoverished schools in Kigali.
